If you’re choosing your wedding date and wondering when to get married on the Sunshine Coast… my short answer?

Winter and spring are hard to beat.

After officiating weddings in every season, here’s my honest take:

Winter (June–August): My secret favourite

Yep — winter.

While southern states are rugging up, Sunshine Coast winter is absolute perfection.

Think:

  • Crisp blue skies
  • Low humidity
  • Mild 21–22°C days
  • Beautiful soft light for photos
  • No one melting in formalwear

Honestly? Winter weddings on the Sunshine Coast are magic.

Spring (September–October): Peak wedding season for a reason

There’s a reason so many couples choose spring.

  • Gorgeous temperatures
  • Flowers blooming
  • Incredible late afternoon light
  • Beautiful for outdoor ceremonies

Just watch the wind if you’re planning a beach ceremony — spring breezes can be wild.

Autumn (April–May): So underrated

Autumn is quietly one of the best times to marry.

  • Stable weather
  • Warm but comfortable
  • Beautiful for hinterland weddings
  • Often easier to secure vendors

I love autumn weddings.

Summer (December–February): Choose carefully

Can it work? Yes.
Would I recommend a midday outdoor ceremony in January? Absolutely NOT!

Summer can bring:

  • Heat
  • Humidity
  • Afternoon storms

If you’re choosing summer, go late afternoon and always have a wet weather backup.

My biggest tip? Choose your ceremony time carefully.

This matters almost as much as the season.

2-3pm is the sweet spot!

That gives you:

  • Better light
  • Happier guests
  • More comfortable temperatures
  • Beautiful photos

Photographer’s Perspective

As a wedding photographer, I always recommend planning your ceremony around 3–2.5 hours before sunset. The key is to work backwards from sunset on your wedding day timeline—this ensures you’re making the most of the best natural light.

My honest verdict?

If I were choosing:

June to October. Late afternoon.

That’s the dream.
